Clinical Dietician

Job Description/Duties:

 

üReporting to the Watson Lake Hospital Facility Administrator (FA), the Clinical Dietitian is responsible for instructing and counselling inpatients and outpatients on therapeutic diets and nutrition.

üClinical support and supervision will be provided to the incumbent through Food & Nutrition Services at Whitehorse General Hospital.

üIn addition, the incumbent collaborates with Whitehorse General Hospital (WGH) and Government of Yukon Dieticians to provide comprehensive nutrition programs, and performs other related duties.

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills Required:

üKnowledge of diet counselling in Acute Care and Outpatient Department settings

üKnowledge of the science of nutrition as it applies to general nutrition and therapeutic nutrition

üKnowledge of WHMIS, Food Safe, and Violence Prevention Intervention methods and techniques

üAbility to assess, plan, organize and deliver clinical nutritional care to hospital inpatients and outpatient department clients

üAbility to plan, evaluate, and implement non selective menus for patients on regular/therapeutic diets and to modify diets where necessary

üAbility to diagnose/assess and advise patients on required behavioural changes as they relate to diet and nutrition

üAbility to instruct patients, families and groups in nutrition and lifestyle modifications for general health and management of disease conditions

üAbility to understand and adapt to the various socio-economic conditions prevalent in the health care setting

üAbility to work effectively in a cross cultural environment

üAbility to educate, assess, mentor and evaluate dietetic Interns

üAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

üGood computer skills

üDemonstrated analytical skills

üExcellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

üAbility to work independently

üKnowledge of Yukon demographics, geography, history and cultures and First Nation traditional diets would be desirable

üExperience in food service management would be desirable

üExperience supervising dietetic interns would be desirable

üDiabetic Educators Certification (C.D.E. credentials) would be desirable

üMasters degree in Nutrition or related field would be desirable but not essential.

The successful applicant will have membership in or eligibility for membership in the Dietitians of Canada and eligibility for membership in the BC Dietitians and Nutritionists Association, or the Alberta Registered Dietitians Association; membership must be maintained with a professional regulatory body; a valid driver’s license is required.
